Randstad Education is seeking a high-energy, resilient SEMH Instructor for a specialist provision in Basildon. This role is centered on supporting students who require an alternative approach to the traditional curriculum due to complex social, emotional, and mental health challenges. In Basildon, our partner schools focus heavily on vocational links and life-skills integration. As an Instructor, you won’t just be teaching from a textbook; you will be coaching students through social interactions, managing emotional triggers, and helping them gain the confidence needed to transition into further education or employment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Active Learning: Deliver practical and engaging lessons that minimise "desk time" and maximise student participation.
  • Behaviour Transformation: Actively use trauma-informed practices to understand the "why" behind challenging behaviours and implement successful intervention strategies.
  • Collaboration: Work alongside onsite therapists and support staff to provide a unified approach to student well-being.
  • Reporting: Maintain accurate records of student incidents, progress, and achievements in line with school policy.
  • Classroom Management: Oversee a small group of learners (typically 6-8 students) with the support of 1 or 2 specialised Teaching Assistants.

Candidate Requirements

  • Experience: Strong background in SEND, specifically SEMH or ASD, within an educational or youth work setting.
  • Confidence: Ability to take initiative in the classroom and lead a small staff team.
  • Adaptability: A flexible approach to teaching - being able to pivot a lesson plan if a student’s emotional state requires a different focus.
  • Location: Ideally based in or within easy commuting distance of Basildon (excellent links via the A127/A13 or C2C rail line).
  • Compliance: Enhanced DBS on the Update Service and a minimum of two professional references are required.
