Randstad Education is looking for a dedicated and empathetic Teaching Assistant to join the support staff of a highly-regarded secondary school in Basildon. Unlike a Cover Supervisor, who manages the whole class, your focus as a Teaching Assistant is on individual student success. You will work closely with the Special Educational Needs (SEN) department to bridge the gap for students who require extra help, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to thrive regardless of their starting point.

Key Responsibilities

  • 1:1 Support: Work one-on-one with students with specific learning needs (e.g., Autism, ADHD, or Dyslexia) to help them access the curriculum.
  • Small Group Intervention: Lead "breakout" sessions to improve literacy, numeracy, or social skills for small groups of students.
  • Academic Assistance: Simplify complex instructions and help students stay focused during main classroom lessons.
  • Emotional Support: Act as a mentor, helping students build confidence and manage their anxiety or frustrations within the school environment.
  • Teacher Partnership: Work alongside the Class Teacher and SENCO to monitor progress and adapt learning materials.

Requirements

  • Experience: Previous experience working with children or young adults (experience with SEN is highly valued).
  • Communication: A patient, nurturing, and encouraging communication style.
  • Reliability: A consistent and punctual presence, as the students you support rely on your routine.
  • Academic Base: Strong GCSEs in English and Maths (Grade C/4 or above) to assist with core subjects.
  • Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to process one).

Why Join Randstad?

  • Training: Access to free accredited training, including Autism Awareness and Behaviour Management.
  • Weekly Pay: Competitive daily rates paid via a simplified timesheet process.
  • Referral Scheme: Earn £300 in Love2Shop vouchers for every friend you refer to us!
  • Career Growth: This is the perfect "stepping stone" role for those considering a career in Educational Psychology or Teaching.
