Position Type: 12-Month Contract (Full-Time)

Working Pattern: On-site, Monday to Friday (Flexible core hours between 6am - 6pm, 37.5 hours per week)

About the Role

Are you an experienced Analytical Chemist looking to join a world-leading research institute? We are seeking a dedicated Laboratory Scientist to execute critical laboratory workflows, focus on sample preparation, and run analytical runs on Mass Spectrometry platforms. Working within a collaborative R&D setting, you will focus on the chemical analysis of biological samples, delivering high-quality scientific data to drive key research projects forward.

Key Responsibilities

  • Mass Spectrometry: Run prepared samples on Mass Spectrometry platforms (LC-MS) to generate high-quality analytical data.
  • Sample Preparation: Perform extraction techniques and sample preparation following routine laboratory methodologies.
  • Biological Samples: Safely manage and process various biological matrices (including urine, blood fractions, and hair samples).
  • Equipment & Operations: Maintain key laboratory equipment, manage consumables sourcing, and adhere strictly to QSHE guidelines (including SOP writing and risk assessments).
  • Method Development Support: Assist with validating new methodologies and support the refinement and troubleshooting of experimental techniques under the guidance of senior chemists.
  • Data & Compliance: Maintain accurate Electronic Lab Notebooks (ELN), track samples, and provide updates to internal stakeholders via written reports or presentations.

Key Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor's degree (BSc) in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or a closely related scientific discipline (Biochemistry/Chemistry focus preferred).
  • Technical Experience: Demonstrable hands-on experience using Mass Spectrometry technologies (specifically LC-MS, GC-MS, or FT-ICR-MS) within a laboratory environment.
  • Sample Handling: Direct, proven experience in the safe handling and processing of biological samples.
  • Industry Experience: Practical, post-university experience working in a laboratory setting (experience within an R&D environment is highly desirable).
  • Organization & Communication: Excellent attention to detail, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to manage and prioritise multiple tasks efficiently.
