Are you an experienced Buyer within large scale and Capex projects? Do you consider yourself to be proactive and an asset to a busy team? Are you based in or around Swansea? We have a fixed term Capex Buyer role available within Tata Steel's Port Talbot works. This is an opportunity to be part of the procurement team for a historic, large scale project which is reinventing sustainable steel production. This role is ideal for someone with substantial Capital Buying experience and is able to manage multi-million contracts independently.
Location: Tata Steel, Port Talbot Works, Port Talbot, Swansea, SA13 2NG (100% site based)
Rate: £500 per day (Inside IR35)
Contract length: 6 months initially
Shift Patterns: Mon-Fri, 36.5 hours per week. Mon-Thu 08:30-16:45 and Fri 08:30-15:45
Start: ASAP but pending the successful result of a medical, which does include a Drug and Alcohol test
Responsibilities:
- Managing a portfolio of Capital Schemes
- Managing, controlling and supporting with multi-billion buying activity
- Assisting Management to deliver a highly effective Capital Procurement Service
- Ensuring KPI's and SLA's are met to the highest standard
- On a day to day basis, managing projects including providing feedback on performance
- Leading on Capital buys and supporting the project team(s)
- Reviewing and monitoring the cost of procurement and establishing robust commercial contracts
- Keeping strong communication between stakeholders
- Ensuring appropriate selection of suppliers to minimise business risk
- Understanding internal customer priorities and demands and reviewing this regularly
- Monitoring financial progress and savings and reporting them to Management as required
Essential requirements:
- Full UK Driving Licence and access to own vehicle (due to nature of the works)
- Prior Buying/Procurement experience (5+ years) within Large scale or Capex projects
- Degree educated within Procurement subject (or equivalent)
- Proven experience negotiating on T&C's independently
- Strong IT literacy including MS Office and Procurement systems
- Member of CIPS (Preferred)
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- A commercial mindset
