We are delivering a once-in-a-generation £1bn+ Overhead Line (OHL) infrastructure project. This is not just a build; it is a critical component of the UK's transition to Net Zero. As the Design Manager, you will be the bridge between conceptual engineering and physical reality, overseeing a complex 6-year program from preliminary design through to commissioning and handover.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the Interface: Manage the design evolution between internal engineering teams, specialist consultants, and the client.
- DCO & Planning: Navigate the complexities of Development Consent Orders (DCO), ensuring all design changes remain within the parameters of environmental and planning constraints.
- Value Engineering: Identify and implement efficiencies in tower spotting, foundation design, and material selection.
- Digital Excellence: Drive the BIM strategy (ISO 19650), ensuring the 'Digital Twin' of the project is as robust as the physical assets.
- Safety by Design: Ensure CDM 2015 regulations are at the heart of every decision.
Experience Required:
- Proven experience managing the design phase of large-scale OHL projects (132kV, 275kV, or 400kV).
- A track record on major infrastructure projects (£250m+) - you understand the governance and reporting rigor required at this level.
- You have the stamina for a long-term program.
- You enjoy seeing a project through from the first sketch to the final conductor stringing.
- Exceptional stakeholder management skills, with the ability to translate complex technical risks into clear commercial or environmental impacts for non-technical stakeholders.
