We are looking for a highly organised and proactive Roster Clerk to join our team.
What You’ll Do
As a Roster Clerk, you will play a key role in ensuring our train crews and operational staff are planned and deployed safely, efficiently and in line with operational requirements. Key responsibilities include:
- Producing efficient base rosters and weekly rosters to support operational requirements.
- Preparing and issuing daily alteration sheets for allocated depots.
- Ensuring only appropriately trained, competent and compliant employees are rostered to duties.
- Managing annualised hours and supporting compliance with contractual obligations.
- Coordinating annual leave rosters for drivers and ground staff.
- Updating rosters in response to timetable changes and operational requirements.
- Maintaining accurate records using rostering, competency and industry systems.
- Liaising with Control and operational teams to help ensure train coverage is maintained.
- Monitoring fatigue‑related alerts and taking appropriate action.
- Reconciling roster changes to ensure worked hours are accurately recorded.
- Arranging accommodation, hire vehicles and medical appointments where required.
- Supporting wider planning activities and providing cover across the rostering function when needed.
What We’re Looking For
We’re seeking someone who thrives in a fast‑paced operational environment, has excellent attention to detail and enjoys solving problems while balancing multiple priorities. You will ideally have:
- A good knowledge of freight train operations and railway geography.
- Experience of rostering, planning, scheduling or operational resource allocation.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise effectively.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Sound IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications and operational systems.
- Knowledge of driver and ground staff terms and conditions.
- The ability to work accurately under pressure while maintaining a focus on compliance and safety.
- A flexible and proactive approach to changing operational demands.
- A good standard of general education.
