Salary: £20.66 PAYE; £26.88 Umbrella (equivalent to £48,344 a year).

Shift: Permanent Nights; M-F

45 hour minimum working week + paid overtime as and when available

Role Type: Rolling Contract (12 months+ issued in 3 month blocks)

This is a great opportunity to join a specialist team working to transform train interiors. You will be part of a specially trained team that will tackle interior maintenance for train fleets that have a high passenger tunrnover and require extra attention to deliver clean, modern, safe and comfotable train carriages into service. This team and role is all about achieving more – with a focus on the customer you will help their fleets in service deliver better quality passenger journeys.

This is an exciting time to join a rail company that is pushing to improve customer experience through dedicated and detailed train maintenance activities, focusing on key elements of customer journeys and customer satisfaction when on-board.

For this poistion we can consider candidates with or without previous rail experience as full training will be provided internally. This will include depot PTS and on the job training to follow the relevant VMIs for hands on work and hpw to record work accuratly to aid forecasting of fleet maintenance needs and ensure that high standards are maintained delicering the best outcomes to the customer.

As a Service Support Operative you will be responsible for supporting the repair, upgrade and reactive maintenance of key interior carriage facilities for an operational fleet of rail vehicles. This will include carrying out removal and replacement of parts and equipment within the train interiors.

Attention to detail is key, you will be working on areas of train maintenance that may have fell through the gaps of the standard train operators exam and maintenance schedueles. Focusing on passengerr comfort, accesibiility and safety you will ensure that defects are identified and brought up to the highest possible standard.

There will be opportunities to undertake more advanced engineering tasks such as fault finding and diagnostics of electrical equipment and systems as you become accustomed to the fleet and progress in your familiarity and abilities. As a long term rolling contract, there is ongoing training and comptency development opportunity for motivated and capable individuals.

The role

  • Carry out basic engineering/fitting tasks as directed by the Team Leader
  • Follow all necessary depot health and safety requirements
  • Follow all engineering quality standards of work and maintain good reporting of asset assessment, work completed and materials used as requested
  • Maintain good communication with production team members to ensure all work is completed to the required standard and in the necessary time limits
  • Highlight any concerns relating to fleet condition or provided parts/materials or opportunities for improvement in reports where identified

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience hands on in mechanical or electrical fitting work
  • Ability to work efficiently to deadlines
  • Exposure to electrical engineering principles or experience in electrical engineering or wiring is beneficial but not essential
  • Must have experience working to instructions for hands on assembly or maintenance tasks
  • Previous experience on rolling stock is beneficial but not essential
  • Able to pass Personal Track Safety course or Depot Track Safety course.
  • Ability to read and follow schematics and diagrams.
  • Basic knowledge of IT skills
  • Ability to pass a Drugs & Alcohol test and Rail Standard Medical Assessment
