MPI are currently recruiting for a Permanent Rolling Stock Mechanical Engineer for the Docklands Light Railway.
Purpose of Job
The Rolling Stock Engineers are responsible for all aspects of rolling stock engineering to support fleet availability, technical/safety assurance and new fleet introduction of the DLR Rolling Stock.
Dimensions
Rolling Stock Engineers will be responsible for identifying, managing and documenting safety compliance and reliability improvements to the DLR fleets and providing technical support in the following areas:
- Technical knowledge and responsibility for all vehicle systems including ATO, electrical and power systems, electronic and control, mechanical, auxiliary and pneumatic control systems.
- Technical knowledge and management of rolling stock materials and suppliers.
- Technical knowledge and management of engineering compliance, standards and change.
- Technical knowledge and management of maintenance and reliability processes.
- Technical knowledge and management of rolling stock documentation.
Key Accountabilities
Rolling Stock Engineers will be responsible for the following:
- Delivering technical changes through the DLR assurance (CAP) process, including assuring changes as a Designated Competent Person.
- Commercial and Project management of rolling stock work and suppliers. This will involve attending supplier’s facilities/factories as required, both in the UK and Europe.
- Implement predict and prevent activities to improve fleet availability and reliability, including producing scopes of work.
- Lead technical compliance and safety assurance of rolling stock activities, including condition assessments, report writing and auditing.
- Management and development of the Annual Asset Maintenance Plan (AAMP) and ISO55001 requirements.
- Coach and develop relevant team members, including proactive succession planning.
- Plan and manage integrated engineering activities that deliver business efficiencies.
- Project manage implementation of innovative work streams, including “in-house” capabilities.
- Technical support with “Engineering Vehicles” such as technical and safety compliance, assurance, documentation and maintenance activities.
Essential / Desirable Experience / Qualifications
- Higher level engineering qualification(s).
- Relevant Engineering degree (or similar), accredited by the IET/I.MechE. Other qualifications considered with relevant experience.
- C.Eng or I.Eng accreditation (or actively working towards) desirable.
- Post qualification experience in a Technical Rolling Stock Engineering environment essential.
- Good IT skills – MS Office essential, Good knowledge of typical rolling Stock diagnostic software packages/Engineering software desirable.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills – ability to author, present and review high quality technical documentation essential.
- Knowledge of rolling stock technical compliance and safety assurance requirements essential.
- Knowledge of ROGS and understanding of the Office of Rail and Road (ORR) essential.
- Experience of commercial aspects such as contracts, performance and business KPI’s essential.
- Experience in working with third party suppliers and new train introduction essential.
- Experience in delivering projects essential.
- The job holder will have sufficient and rounded knowledge of all Rolling Stock systems.
