Production Scheduler – Rail
The Production Scheduler (rail) is responsible for supporting the development and maintenance of weekly Production Schedules within a rail workshop, you will be ensuring customer material requirements are met in close collaboration with Production Managers and Shop Floor Chargehands.
The role is also responsible for providing accurate and timely information to Fleet Planners and Store Personnel to support the effective planning and completion of maintenance activities.
The successful candidate will come from a Rail / transport / logistics background, strong administrative and IT skills with excellent organisation, attention to detail and the ability to prioritise competing requirements.
Experience of SAP Manufacturing and production scheduling will be particularly valuable.

Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation and development of weekly Production Schedules in line with customer requirements.
- Work closely with Production Managers and Shop Floor Chargehands to monitor production progress and schedule performance.
- Produce performance reports, updates and meeting documentation using Microsoft Word and Excel, based on information provided by Production and Planning Managers.
- Handle incoming customer enquiries relating to Railway Engineering Workshop operations, dealing with routine correspondence and referring specialist enquiries to the Planning Manager.
- Accurately input shop floor timesheet information into the SAP Manufacturing System in a timely manner.
- Maintain an organised and comprehensive filing system to ensure information can be easily retrieved when required.
- Provide day-to-day administrative support for the SAP Manufacturing System, including:
- Raising Sales Orders.
- Raising Production Work Orders.
- Updating delivery information.
- Printing Pick Lists, Travellers and associated production documentation.
- Update production visualisation boards in preparation for daily management visualisation meetings.
- Monitor customer stock levels and take appropriate action to minimise the risk of nil stock situations that could affect train availability.
- Download, analyse and manipulate customer order book data from SAP and produce relevant Microsoft Excel reports and spreadsheets.
- Liaise daily with Production, Planning, Fleet Planning, Stores, Despatch and Purchasing teams to exchange information and support the smooth running of production and maintenance activities.
You will interact regularly with - Production Managers and Fleet Planning Managers and Store Managers, Despatch Controller and Despatch Operatives.
The role requires daily communication with these teams to request, provide and coordinate information relating to production, materials, deliveries and maintenance requirements.
Knowledge & Technical Skills
Rail background would be beneficial.
- Competent IT skills with good practical knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly:
- Microsoft Excel.
- Microsoft Word.
- Microsoft Outlook.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Project would be desirable.
- Detailed knowledge and practical experience of SAP Manufacturing, including:
- Raising Sales Orders.
- Raising Production Work Orders.
