We are seeking a motivated and ambitious Assistant Project Manager to support the development and delivery of major rail infrastructure enhancement projects. This role offers an excellent opportunity to work within a dynamic project environment, supporting projects through the early stages of the lifecycle from inception to the development of a robust delivery option.

Working alongside senior project professionals and key stakeholders, you will contribute to the safe, efficient, and successful development of projects while ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, industry standards, client requirements, programme objectives, cost targets, and quality expectations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the management and development of rail infrastructure enhancement projects through the project lifecycle.
  • Assist in ensuring projects are developed in line with relevant health, safety, environmental, and railway standards.
  • Contribute to project planning, risk management, programme development, and cost control activities.
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to support project objectives and governance requirements.
  • Assist with the preparation of project documentation, reports, business cases, and investment submissions.
  • Support commercial activities, including contract administration and supplier engagement.
  • Monitor project progress and help identify opportunities to improve project outcomes.
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams within a complex project environment.
Essential Skills and Experience
  • Experience working within a project environment, ideally within the rail or infrastructure sector.
  • Experience supporting or contributing to major rail infrastructure projects.
  • Exposure to major programmes during development and/or implementation phases.
  • Understanding of project safety management and relevant construction and health & safety legislation.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Commercial awareness and an understanding of contract management principles.
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively within a complex environment.
  • A self-motivated and proactive approach with a willingness to learn and develop.
Desirable Skills and Qualifications
  • Membership of the Association for Project Management (APM) or working towards a relevant professional qualification.
  • Experience working within a matrix-managed organisation.
  • Knowledge of Network Rail investment regulations and governance processes.
  • Experience supporting budget management and project financial reporting.
