Morson Talent is recruiting for an Auxiliary Assistant, this is a hands‑on, depot‑based position, within a train depot, supporting production and workshop teams with the preparation, movement and basic assembly of rail components and equipment.
Key responsibilities
- Supporting production teams with stripping, cleaning, preparation and minor assembly work.
- Cleaning and preparing components, bogies and railway carriages.
- Identifying raw materials and manufactured components using bills of materials, stores requisitions and manufacturing specifications.
- Operating counterbalance forklift trucks and other materials-handling equipment.
- Operating overhead cranes, electric vehicles and road vehicles where appropriately trained and authorised.
- Transporting equipment and assets safely around the depot.
- Using hand and power tools, including drills, sanders and powered screwdrivers.
- Assisting with the safe dismantling of equipment to component or sub‑system level.
- Maintaining high standards of housekeeping throughout the workshop and depot.
- Reporting equipment defects, unsafe working practices and potential safety concerns.
- Following all relevant health and safety procedures, working instructions and driving‑at‑work requirements.
Essential requirements
- A current and valid counterbalance / forklift licence.
- Previous forklift driving experience.
- Experience using basic hand and power tools.
- Good practical or mechanical aptitude.
- The ability to understand and follow written working instructions.
- A strong awareness of workplace health and safety.
- Clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- A reliable, proactive approach to general housekeeping and safe working.
Desirable experience
- Previous experience within a rail, engineering, manufacturing, maintenance or depot environment.
- Experience operating overhead cranes or other mechanised materials‑handling equipment.
- Experience dismantling equipment to component level.
- Awareness of manual handling and basic first aid principles.
