A leading UK infrastructure contractor is looking to appoint an experienced Lead/Managing Quantity Surveyor to join its growing commercial team.

Operating across major civil engineering and infrastructure projects, the business has built an excellent reputation for delivering complex schemes safely, collaboratively and to the highest standards.

This is an outstanding opportunity for a commercially astute professional to lead the commercial delivery of multiple projects while managing and developing a team.

As well as someone who is looking to develop into a Commercial Management position.

  • Role & Responsibilities
  • Leading the commercial management of multiple infrastructure projects, ensuring financial and contractual performance targets are achieved
  • Administering contracts in accordance with contractual terms and implementing robust change control procedures
  • Preparing, reviewing and maintaining detailed cost plans, forecasts and commercial reports
  • Producing Monthly Progress Reports (MPR), Cost Value Reconciliations (CVR) and commercial commentaries
  • Monitoring project performance, identifying commercial risks and implementing mitigation strategies
  • Managing procurement activities and supporting the selection and management of subcontractors and suppliers
  • Preparing interim valuations, managing variations, contractor claims and final accounts
  • Resolving commercial issues, providing contractual advice and supporting dispute resolution where required
  • Attending regular project meetings and carrying out site visits to monitor progress and commercial performance
  • Ensuring governance, commercial assurance and project documentation remain fully compliant
  • Leading, mentoring and developing a team of Quantity Surveyors through regular performance reviews, development plans and coaching
  • Building strong relationships with clients, operational teams and supply chain partners to support successful project delivery
  • Driving continuous improvement by promoting best practice, innovation and Lean principles across the commercial function

Essential Skills

  • Extensive experience in a Quantity Surveying role within rail infrastructure civil engineering projects
  • Previous experience managing multiple projects with full commercial responsibility
  • Strong knowledge of NEC and other standard forms of contract administration
  • Proven ability to produce accurate cost forecasts, CVRs, valuations and financial reporting
  • Experience managing subcontract procurement, variations and final accounts
  • Excellent commercial awareness with strong financial and contractual management skills
  • Demonstrable experience leading, mentoring and developing commercial teams
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to make informed commercial decisions
  • Highly organised with the ability to prioritise multiple workloads and meet strict deadlines
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and commercial cost management software
  • Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or a related discipline (or equivalent industry experience)
  • Desired Skills
  • Chartered status or working towards professional membership with RICS, or an equivalent professional body
  • Experience supporting commercial audits and governance processes
  • Strong understanding of risk management, dispute resolution and commercial compliance
  • Ability to build long-term relationships with clients, stakeholders and supply chain partners
