Are you a Systems Engineer, Requirements Manager, or Integration Engineer with a passion for solving complex integration challenges from first principles? Would you like to work on the largest infrastructure project in Europe?

This is a unique opportunity to join HS2 and play a key role in a novel, proactive approach to systems integration. You will join a specialist team responsible for defining and managing the functional integration between all major railway systems, ensuring that the operational railway is delivered successfully.

You will act as the bridge between high-level operational concepts and the technical delivery of individual systems by contractors. You will be responsible for modelling cross-system interactions for critical functions like train dispatch, defining how systems such as signalling, telecoms, rolling stock, and the central control system (EMS) must work together to meet the end‑users' needs. Your work will be central to identifying integration risks and gaps before they become issues.

You will work closely with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, including subject matter experts, operators, and contractor design teams, to develop and manage these functional descriptions throughout the entire project lifecycle, from design through to system‑level testing.

Essential Experience
  • Proven experience as a Systems Engineer or in a similar integration‑focused role.
  • Experience delivering complex systems or components through a full project lifecycle.
  • A strong problem‑solving mindset with the ability to work independently.
  • Experience in model‑based systems engineering (MBSE), formal requirements management, or functional analysis.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and technical interface coordination skills.
Desirable Experience
  • Rail industry experience is highly preferred.
  • Experience in other safety‑critical or complex engineering sectors (e.g., defence, aviation, nuclear, automotive).
  • Familiarity with specific railway systems (Signalling, Telecoms, SCADA/EMS, Rolling Stock).
  • Experience using tools such as DOORS or Enterprise Architect and modelling languages like UML/SysML.

This is a rare opportunity to work on a novel, proactive integration methodology not widely used in UK rail. You will gain a unique, system‑wide view of one of Europe's largest infrastructure projects, defining how a new railway should operate from first principles. The role offers excellent exposure across the entire project lifecycle and the chance to solve genuinely complex engineering challenges.
