Location: Birmingham, 3 days in the office/site per week and remainder from home

This is an opportunity to join a major infrastructure programme delivering the UK’s largest and most complex rail depot facilities. Acting as the Lead Project Engineer, you will oversee the technical delivery and integration of multiple railway systems and depot infrastructure packages across the full project lifecycle.
The depot has been described as a “mini railway” and requires a genuine multi-disciplinary railway engineering leader capable of coordinating track, OCS, communications, signalling, buildings, MEPH systems, and rolling stock interfaces within a highly integrated operational environment.
You will work closely with contractors, designers, consultants, and stakeholders to provide engineering leadership, technical assurance, interface management, and delivery oversight from design through to testing, commissioning, and handover.
This role is ideal for candidates with strong depot experience and a background managing complex railway systems integration and engineering interfaces.
Essential experience:- Previous rail depot experience
- Strong multi-disciplinary railway engineering background
- Experience delivering projects through the full lifecycle including design, construction, testing, and handover
- Experience managing engineering interfaces across complex infrastructure projects
- Strong leadership experience managing teams, designers, or engineering delivery functions
- Knowledge of railway systems including track, OCS, signalling, communications, or depot infrastructure
- Strong understanding of engineering assurance and practical project delivery
- Experience operating as a CEM or Engineering Manager
- Knowledge of depot operational systems and rolling stock interfaces
- Experience working within contractor or consultancy delivery environments
- Chartered status or working towards chartership
