Summary:
A unique opportunity has arisen to join a major infrastructure concession responsible for the operation, maintenance, and renewal of one of the UK\’s most critical motorway networks. This long term contract spans 30 years and includes a diverse and complex portfolio of highways structures, bridges, viaducts, gantries, tunnels, and retaining walls.

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Asset Lead to join the asset investment team, working client side in a strategic, senior level role. This position is ideal for a Chartered Engineer with a strong background in infrastructure asset management and a passion for delivering lifecycle value, innovation, and sustainability across a high-profile asset base.

Role Purpose:
Reporting to the Asset Investment Manager, the Asset Lead will provide strategic direction and leadership across all asset management activities related to highway structures. Acting as a key interface between internal teams, operational contractors, and external stakeholders, the successful candidate will ensure that asset strategies align with long term handback requirements, drive performance, and deliver value through optimal inspection, maintenance, and renewal planning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as Project Sponsor for high value structures renewal schemes (up to £30m/year), ensuring that project outcomes align with strategic objectives, budget, and lifecycle planning.

  • Provide technical oversight and challenge to delivery teams, facilitating issue resolution, risk mitigation, and value optimisation.

  • Drive innovation, efficiency, and carbon reduction throughout project gateways and asset strategy development.

  • Lead the continuous improvement of asset management strategies for structures assets across their full lifecycle, with a focus on compliance, performance, and risk management.

  • Support the development of the long term Asset Management Forward Plan, ensuring that investments deliver quantifiable benefits and align with corporate priorities.

  • Promote the use of asset management tools and systems, including Asset Investment Planning toolkits, and contribute to data driven decision making.

  • Engage with industry bodies and parent organisations to share best practice and influence the evolution of asset management approaches.

Essential Experience:

  • Chartered Engineer (or equivalent) with a strong technical foundation in structural engineering, preferably within highways or rail infrastructure.

  • Demonstrated experience managing or sponsoring complex asset renewal projects in a regulated or performance-driven environment.

  • Strong strategic mindset with the ability to balance technical detail, stakeholder interests, and commercial outcomes.

  • Experience with asset management systems, lifecycle planning, and performance frameworks is highly desirable.

  • Proactive, collaborative, and capable of operating autonomously at a senior level.
