Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Asset Linear Lead to join a senior team overseeing asset management for a major UK infrastructure project. This is a unique opportunity to take ownership of strategies covering the full lifecycle of highway assets including pavement, geotechnical, drainage, and road restraint systems. You will be working at the heart of one of the UK\’s most significant road networks, ensuring performance, sustainability, and innovation in asset delivery.
Role Purpose:
Reporting to the Asset Investment Manager, the Asset Linear Lead will play a key role in developing and implementing asset management strategies in line with contractual handback requirements and long-term performance goals. You will work closely with delivery and technical teams, acting as a strategic leader across the planning, maintenance, and renewal of linear assets. This role combines long term planning, hands-on project oversight, and continuous improvement of asset management systems.
Key Responsibilities:

Lead the development of asset management strategies for highways linear assets (pavement, drainage, geotechnical, road restraint systems).

Act as project sponsor for renewal schemes, ensuring effective delivery and budget control.

Collaborate with engineering and commercial teams to optimise project scope and solve technical issues.

Provide technical support to the Engineering Manager for departures from standards and approvals.

Champion innovation, carbon reduction, and best practice across asset management activities.

Contribute to business cases, investment planning, and strategic decision-making.

Support development of forward plans and annual asset reports, capturing outcomes, lessons learned, and performance.

Review and challenge data and modelling inputs in asset planning systems and decision-support tools.

Contribute to the ongoing development of asset strategies and support ISO 55001 compliance.

Work collaboratively with stakeholders to align asset activities with broader contract and network performance goals.

Maintain awareness of contractual, technical, and system based asset management obligations.
Essential Experience:

Chartered Engineer (ICE or equivalent) or equivalent professional accreditation.

Proven experience managing complex highway infrastructure assets

Strong understanding of whole lifecycle asset management, strategy development, and performance monitoring.

Able to communicate effectively with a range of technical and commercial stakeholders.

Proactive, strategic thinker with the ability to work independently in a high performing team.

Experience in managing multiple concurrent projects and priorities.
