As a Concrete Repair Operative, you will be responsible for the restoration and maintenance of rail-side structures, including bridges, tunnels, retaining walls, and platforms. This is a technical role that requires precision to ensure the structural integrity and longevity of critical rail assets.
Detailed Duties and Responsibilities
- Surface Preparation: Using mechanical tools (breakers, grinders, or grit-blasting) to remove degraded concrete and expose reinforcement steel.
- Steel Reinforcement Treatment: Cleaning and applying anti-corrosion coatings to rebar.
- Repair Application: Mixing and applying specialist repair mortars (hand-placed or flowable) to meet engineering specifications.
- Finishing: Levelling, smoothing, and curing repaired sections to match existing profiles.
- Injections: (Where required) Carrying out resin or grout injections to seal structural cracks.
- Site Safety: Working strictly under the direction of the COSS and ensuring all specialist chemicals and tools are stored and used according to COSHH guidelines.
Candidate Requirements
- Valid PTS (Personal Track Safety): Essential for working within the rail boundary.
- CSCS Card: Blue (Skilled Worker) in a relevant trade is highly preferred.
