We at randstad are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Engineer to lead engineering activities across a defined section of a major infrastructure project in Suffolk. This role is designed for a technical leader who excels in Temporary Works coordination and acts as an innovation leader to drive project efficiency. You will bring sound technical judgment and commercial awareness to the team, making informed decisions that balance safety, quality, and progress. While you will often work within a broader engineering team, you will be expected to lead independently on specific packages, ensuring that all engineering solutions are safe, compliant, and seamlessly integrated into the construction methodology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Temporary Works Leadership (Primary Function)
    • Coordination: Lead TW coordination for your section, ensuring strict compliance with design, safety, and procedural requirements.
    • Problem Solving: Challenge information, identify risks, and propose innovative solutions to drive safe, efficient buildability.
    • Liaison: Act as the key point of contact for Temporary Works Designers, consultants, and subcontractors to develop and approve engineering solutions.
    • Proactive Management: Anticipate engineering issues early in the project lifecycle to minimize site disruption.
  • Engineering Delivery & Methodology
    • Planning: Develop construction methodologies with a clear understanding of the critical path and wider project impacts.
    • Technical Support: Assist in Technical Queries (TQ), Non-Conformance Reports (NCR), and testing functions.
    • Mentorship: Manage engineering input across your work area, delegating tasks effectively and mentoring junior engineers.
    • Digital Engineering: Contribute to BIM Level 2 processes and promote high-quality digital data management.
  • Health, Safety & Environment
    • Safety Culture: Ensure all works (including TW) are delivered safely through robust RAMS and ongoing reviews.
    • Sustainability: Support project carbon reduction goals through efficient and sustainable engineering practices.
    • Supervision: Manage subcontractors and suppliers to maintain a high-standard safety culture.
  • Project & Commercial Management
    • Tracking: Plan and manage engineering activities to ensure progress remains on target.
    • Commercial Support: Assist in cost estimating for work packages and maintain accurate engineering records and site documentation.
    • Lifecycle: Influence resource planning and contribute to effective project lifecycle management.

Experience & Technical Skills:

  • Background: Proven experience within a Tier 1 contractor on major infrastructure projects.
  • Temporary Works: Strong, demonstrable experience in TW management and coordination.
  • Leadership: Confident in making engineering decisions and mentoring junior team members.
  • BIM: Knowledge of BIM Level 2 principles and digital information management.
  • Innovation: A proactive approach to problem-solving and a drive for continuous improvement.

Qualifications:

  • Essential: SMSTS/SSSTS, SEATS, and CAT & GENNY (Training can be provided for the right candidate).
  • Required: Must be willing to undertake specific Temporary Works training upon commencement.
  • Desirable: MEng/BEng in Civil Engineering; progression toward ICE Chartership.
  • First Aid: Training will be provided.
