We are recruiting a Works Manager to join a highly respected, specialist civil engineering contractor as they expand their regional operations across Banbury and Oxfordshire.

This is a key operational leadership role taking full ownership of site delivery on regional highways and civils packages, driving safety, quality, and daily output from the ground up.

Role

Reporting to the Project Director, you will manage day-to-day site operations, workforce allocation, and subcontractor delivery across highways infrastructure schemes.

Your day-to-day will involve

  • Site Operations Leadership: Directing direct labour, plant, and sub-contractors to ensure daily production targets and short-term lookahead schedules are met.
  • Highways & Civils Delivery: Overseeing routine and major highways works, including carriageway repairs, surfacing, drainage, earthworks, and street lighting.
  • HSEQ & Compliance: Enforcing strict health, safety, and environmental standards, leading daily site briefings and toolbox talks, and ensuring full adherence to RAMS.
  • Subcontractor Management: Coordinating specialist supply chain partners on site, checking quality of work, and managing daily resource allocations.
  • Client Interface & Reporting: Maintaining accurate site diaries, recording scope changes, and acting as the main point of contact for local authority and client representatives on site.

Essential Requirements

  • Highways & Civils

Experience: Strong, practical track record working as a Works Manager, General Foreman, or Senior General Foreman on UK highways or local authority roads projects.

  • Hands-On Leadership: Proven ability to manage direct workforces and sub-contractors efficiently on live, fast-paced civil engineering schemes.
  • Site Ready & Qualified: Must hold a valid CSCS card, SMSTS, and First Aid at Work (NRSWA / Streetworks qualifications are highly desirable).
  • Location & Mobility: Based in or commutable to Banbury/Oxfordshire with a full UK driving licence to cover regional site operations.
