Job Description

Job title: Housing Safety Enforcement Officer

Rate: £45-55 an hour, weekly pay

Contract: Temporary, 3 month initial duration, possibile extension for 3 month rolling basis onwards.

Location: Carslile, Cumberland, Cumbria

IR35 Determination: Outside of scope. Does not apply

Our client is seeking a passionate and dedicated Housing Safety Enforcement Officer to join their team in the beautiful northern area of the Lakes, carslile and Cumberland, UK. In this rewarding role, you'll play a crucial part in ensuring safe and healthy living conditions within their community.

The role:

  • Carry out inspections of residential properties to assess for potential hazards under the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS)
  • Determine the risk levels associated with identified hazards and determine appropriate enforcement action.
  • Work closely with landlords and tenants to achieve compliance with relevant legislation, offering advice and guidance as needed
  • Prepare detailed reports and maintain accurate records of inspections and enforcement actions
  • Issue enforcement notices, including improvement notices and prohibition orders, when necessary
  • Collaborate with other agencies, including Environmental Health and Fire Safety, to address complex cases and ensure resident safety
  • Stay up-to-date on current legislation and best practices in housing safety

Experience needed:

  • A strong understanding of the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS) and relevant legislation
  • Proven experience in conducting housing inspections and enforcing housing standards
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with a diverse range of stakeholders
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound judgements independently
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent record-keeping abilities
