Job Description
Job Summary: We are seeking a highly experienced and dynamic Head of Projects to lead our team of Project Managers and oversee the successful delivery of all live D&B projects. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in project management within the construction sector, specifically D&B, and will possess exceptional leadership, communication, and organizational skills. This is a key leadership role responsible for ensuring all projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality and safety.
Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Management:

Lead, mentor, and manage a team of 6-7 Project Managers, fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and professional development.

Conduct regular one-to-one meetings and performance reviews to support the team and ensure their objectives are met.

Provide guidance and support to Project Managers in resolving complex project issues and challenges.

Allocate projects to Project Managers based on their skills, experience, and current workload.

Project Oversight and Delivery:

Oversee a portfolio of 6-7 live projects simultaneously, ranging in value from £2 million to £12 million.

Maintain a high-level view of all projects, monitoring progress, budgets, and timelines to ensure they align with company objectives.

Act as the escalation point for Project Managers, clients, and subcontractors on critical project matters.

Conduct regular site visits to ensure project quality, safety compliance, and adherence to design specifications.

Chair and attend key project meetings, including client progress meetings and internal project reviews.

Financial and Commercial Management:

Review and approve project budgets, cost plans, and financial forecasts.

Work with the commercial team to ensure projects are financially viable and that all commercial risks are identified and mitigated.

Oversee project invoicing, variations, and final accounts to ensure commercial success.

Implement and monitor robust financial reporting systems for all projects.

Client and Stakeholder Relations:

Build and maintain strong, positive relationships with key clients, architects, and consultants.

Represent the company in a professional manner, acting as the primary point of contact for senior-level client queries.

Ensure all project communications are clear, timely, and professional.

Develop, implement, and maintain project management processes, procedures, and best practices to improve efficiency and consistency across the business.

Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations, company policies, and industry standards.

Drive a culture of quality assurance, ensuring all projects are delivered to the highest standards of workmanship.

Report to the senior leadership team on project performance, risks, and opportunities.

Qualifications and Experience:

Minimum of 10 years of experience in project management within the construction industry, with at least 3-5 years in a senior or leadership role.

Demonstrable experience working for a D&B contractor is essential.

Proven track record of successfully managing multiple projects simultaneously, with values up to and exceeding £10 million.

Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field is highly desirable.

Relevant professional qualifications (e.g., Prince2, APM, CIOB) are a significant advantage.

Strong understanding of contract law (JCT, NEC) and commercial management.

Excellent knowledge of health and safety legislation and best practices.
