The Project
We are seeking a Senior Engineer to join a major structural project in Folkestone, specifically focusing on the delivery of a multi-span concrete viaduct. This is a technically demanding role centered on high-spec reinforced concrete (RC) construction, requiring an engineer who is an expert in substructure and superstructure concrete delivery.
The Role
As the Senior Engineer, you will be the technical lead for all concrete structural elements. You will ensure that the viaduct's piers, abutments, and deck segments are built to exact tolerances. This role requires a "boots-on-the-ground" leader who can manage the transition from complex RC drawings to physical high-performance structures.
Key Responsibilities
- RC Structural Delivery: Technical oversight of all reinforced concrete works, including piling, pile caps, piers, and elevated decks.
- Accuracy & Alignment: Lead high-precision setting out, ensuring the verticality of tall piers and the correct geometric profile of the viaduct spans.
- Pour Management: Coordination of large-scale, complex concrete pours, managing everything from reinforcement inspections and pre-pour checklists to curing and strike times.
- Temporary Works: Oversee the safe installation and removal of heavy-duty formwork, falsework, and propping systems.
- Quality Assurance: Drive the ITP (Inspection Test Plan) process, ensuring all rebar, concrete mix designs, and finishes meet the structural specification.
Requirements
- Structures Experience: Minimum 12 months of direct experience in bridge or viaduct construction with a heavy focus on reinforced concrete.
- Technical Mastery: Deep understanding of bar bending schedules (BBS), reinforcement detailing, and concrete technology.
- Qualifications: Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
- Certifications: Valid CSCS (Management/Professional) and SMSTS are essential.
- Leadership: Proven experience managing site engineers and RC subcontractors on large-scale infrastructure.
The Package
- Rate: £400 - £500 per day (PAYE).
- Duration: 12-month minimum contract with significant potential for extension.
- Location: Based on-site in Folkestone.
