About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced Lead Electrical Engineer with a strong background in Nuclear sector detailed design and HV Substation projects to join a major engineering team in Manchester. This is a purely electrical leadership position responsible for delivering complete electrical scopes, managing project teams, and handling technical design for critical infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead electrical project delivery, including schedule/MDR creation, CTR estimates, change control, and delegating work packages.
- Direct hands-on electrical design: SLDs, power system calculations, earthing and lightning protection, load schedules, cable routing, schematics, and equipment specifications.
- Specify and procure major electrical assets: HV/LV switchboards, transformers, UPS systems, motors, and lighting.
- Conduct HV power system modelling, protection studies, and liaise directly with DNOs and project stakeholders.
- Oversee compliance with UK nuclear codes, ATEX/DSEAR guidelines, and CE marking directives.
Requirements:
- Sector Experience: 15+ years of engineering experience with recent, hands-on detailed design experience in the UK Nuclear sector.
- Technical Focus: Deep expertise in HV/LV distribution, HV power system modelling, and substation design.
- Security Clearance: Must hold active UK SC Clearance or be fully eligible to achieve it.
- Qualifications: Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent completed apprenticeship) with CEng/IEng status preferred.
Work Pattern: Hybrid model (2-3 days per week in the Manchester office, typically Tuesday-Thursday).
Candidates must be eligible to live and work in the UK.
