Position: School Caretaker

Location: Newcastle upon Tyne

Pay Rate: £13.76 per hour

Hours: Monday- Friday, 07:00 to 18:00

About the Role

We are a leading Facilities Management company seeking a reliable, proactive, and practical Caretaker to oversee the day-to-day maintenance, security, and safety of a bustling school campus in the Newcastle area. As the face of the facility on-site, you will play a crucial role in ensuring a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Site Security & Keyholding: Opening and securing school buildings and grounds, setting alarms, and managing access for staff, contractors, and lettings.
  • General Maintenance: Carrying out minor repairs, basic plumbing, painting, carpentry, and routine upkeep across the site.
  • Health & Safety Compliance: Performing regular health and safety checks (e.g., fire alarm testing, water hygiene checks, emergency lighting tests) and maintaining accurate site records.
  • Facilities Support: Overseeing site cleaning standards, waste management, and setting up halls/rooms for exams, assemblies, or school events.
  • Grounds & Portering: Keeping walkways clear, assisting with deliveries, and managing seasonal tasks (e.g., gritting during winter months).

What We're Looking For

  • Previous experience in building maintenance, caretaking, or facilities management (school experience is a strong advantage).
  • A solid understanding of Health & Safety practices and basic compliance testing.
  • Practical hands-on skills in basic DIY/repairs.
  • Strong communication skills and a friendly, supportive attitude when working in an educational setting.
  • Flexibility to work shift patterns (including early mornings or late afternoons).

Mandatory Requirement: An Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to undergo one) is strictly required for this role due to working within a school environment.
