My client, a specialist M&E subcontractor, are actively recruiting for a senior project engineer with a mechanical/electrical background, to join their existing rail team on a high profile rail project in Birmingham.
The Senior M&E Project Engineer is responsible for the end-to-end technical delivery of Mechanical, Electrical, and Public Health (MEP) systems within a rail environment. You will bridge the gap between design and construction, ensuring that all M&E services are installed, tested, and commissioned safely, on time, and in full compliance with rail industry standards.
Responsibilities
- Manage the technical interface between M&E design teams and site-based installation teams.
- Act as the CRE (Contractor's Responsible Engineer) for M&E where required, signing off on technical designs and site changes.
- Review and approve Work Package Plans (WPPs) and Task Briefing Sheets (TBS).
- Ensure all installations adhere to Network Rail standards.
- Lead the management of M&E subcontractors, ensuring quality of work and adherence to the project program.
- Conduct regular site walks to monitor progress, troubleshoot technical issues, and ensure 'Right First Time' delivery.
- Oversee the procurement of long-lead M&E equipment (e.g., switchgear, HVAC units, UPS systems).
- Ensure all works comply with the CDM 2015 Regulations.
- Manage the Handover (AMP/OMP) process, ensuring all Operation and Maintenance (O&M) manuals and 'As-Built' drawings are accurate.
- Assist the Commercial team in managing variations, assessing subcontractor payment applications, and identifying project risks.
- Monitor the M&E program, identifying potential delays and implementing mitigation strategies.
Requirements
- HNC/HND or Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
- PTS/CSCS Gold/Black Card/SSSTS.
- Minimum 5-7 years in M&E engineering, with at least 3 years specifically in a rail environment (Stations, Depots, or Tunnels).
- Proven experience acting as or supporting a CRE.
- Deep understanding of rail-specific systems (HV/LV power, OLE, signaling power, fire detection/suppression, and CMS).
