We are working alongside one of the region's most respected regional main contractors. This business has built a stellar reputation across Newbury, Berkshire, and the surrounding counties by delivering exceptional £1M to £10M Design & Build, high-spec education, public sector, and sensitive heritage refurbishments. Unlike high-volume corporate contractors, this firm prides itself on local site delivery, strong regional sub-contractor relationships, and giving their Site Managers the full autonomy needed to run a tight, high-quality, and safe job. The Role As the No. 1 Site Manager on site, you will take lead responsibility for the day-to-day operational delivery of live schemes from groundworks through to handover, reporting directly into a visiting Contracts Manager. Full Site Ownership: Drive project programmes, RAMS, site inductions, and daily sub-contractor coordination. Quality & Finishes: Maintain strict quality assurance, especially on high-spec joinery, structural refurbs, and architectural packages. Client & Stakeholder Liaison: Act as the primary face of the contractor on-site, holding regular progress meetings with school heads, private clients, local authorities, and clerk of works. H&S Leadership: Maintain exemplary Health & Safety standards, environmental compliance, and site logistics. About You To be successful in this role, you must be local to Newbury, Berkshire, or the immediate surrounding areas (North Hampshire / Wiltshire / M4 belt) to ensure reasonable daily site travel. Experience: Proven track record as a No. 1 Site Manager running complete schemes valued between £2M and £8M as the lead operational figure on site. Sector Background: Strong main contracting background across education (live school refurbs/extensions), regional commercial D&B, civic builds, or heritage/restoration. Tickets Required: SMSTS, CSCS (Black/Gold Card), First Aid at Work. Attributes: Hands-on, detail-oriented leader who takes pride in the finished product and knows how to get the best out of local sub-contractors without burning bridges.
