Hours: 37 hours per week

  • Monday - Thursday: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM
  • Friday: 8:00 AM - 1:00 PM

Pay rate: Up to £24 per hour GBP

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Proving Test Technician to join a global engineering development team. In this role, you will work on a variety of powertrain installation, integration, shakedown, and testing projects for off-highway machines and heavy vehicles. This position offers hands-on exposure to a diverse range of technical environments, including traditional Internal Combustion (IC) engines, electric systems, and electric vehicle (EV) workshops, with technicians rotating between workshops to gain broader skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Installation & Integration: Install prototype, pilot, and production powertrains into various off-highway machinery.
  • Testing & Instrumentation: Instrument powertrains with speed pickups, thermocouples, pressure transducers, and other sensors.
  • Diagnostics & Repair: Diagnose and fix mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical faults on both powertrains and full machines.
  • Fabrication: Read engineering drawings to manufacture parts using manual machining, welding, and fabrication tools, and produce electrical looms.
  • Safe Operations: Operate a range of off-highway vehicles (such as excavators, telehandlers, and loaders) within the test facility, adhering strictly to health and safety procedures and 5S standards.

Candidate Requirements

  • Experience: Minimum of 4 years of hands-on experience in a workshop, testing, or maintenance environment working with engines, automotive systems, or heavy machinery.
  • Technical Skills: Strong diagnostic and testing skills across mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems. Ability to work across IC, electric, or EV platforms is highly valued.
  • Tools & Drawings: Proficiency in using hand/power tools, lifting equipment, and welding gear, alongside the ability to interpret electrical and mechanical engineering drawings.
  • Qualifications: A completed or ongoing engineering or motor mechanics apprenticeship, or a relevant higher education qualification (such as NVQ Level 3), is highly desirable.
  • Soft Skills: Must be an adaptable team player who thrives in a fast-paced, evolving environment and is eager to learn across different functions.
  • IT Skills: Good PC literacy, including proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
