R&D Advanced Power Systems Technician Location: Peterborough Pay Rate: £20.00 per hour Employment Type: 12-Month Contract (Fully Onsite) Working Hours: 37 hours per week (Day Shift) Role Overview We are seeking a hands-on R&D Technician to join an advanced powertrain division. In this role, you will work on cutting-edge projects including electric motor testing, hybrid powertrain development, and transmission development programmes. You will support build, strip, rebuild, and testing activities across a range of emerging technologies. Key Responsibilities Conduct hands-on mechanical and electrical build, strip, rebuild, diagnostic, and repair activities on prototype power systems. Run test bed software, carry out test plans, and support data logging/analysis under the guidance of lead engineers. Perform electrical safety and insulation checks using diagnostic and service tools. Identify, report, and help resolve technical or product quality issues. Maintain strict adherence to Health & Safety standards, standard work instructions, and safe workshop practices. Requirements Education/Training: Completed Modern Apprenticeship (Mechanical or Electrical discipline) or an equivalent technical qualification (e.g., BTEC / ONC / HNC). Experience: Minimum 2-3 years of post-apprenticeship, hands-on experience in a mechanical/electrical testing, workshop, or R&D environment. Technical Skills: Strong background in diagnostics, fault-finding, mechanical fitting, and reading technical drawings/wiring diagrams. Soft Skills: Problem-solving mindset, clear communication skills, high reliability, and the ability to work well independently and in a team.
