Role Purpose & Overview

As Senior Project Manager, you will safely and effectively manage all aspects of the Civil Engineering Infrastructure and Access Road Works. Working closely with key partners and client stakeholders (SSEN), you will lead procurement, design coordination, and site execution, ensuring these civil package works integrate seamlessly with High Voltage (HV) tower construction and underground cabling streams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the construction delivery of all civil infrastructure and access road packages from mobilisation to handover.
  • Coordinate design outputs from external Design Partners to ensure technical accuracy and constructability.
  • Manage direct reports, including Project & Construction Managers, Works Managers, Health & Safety, Environmental, Engineering, and Quality Managers.
  • Lead and mentor team members, driving high standards of project control, record-keeping, and zero-defect delivery.
  • Support the Construction Director in aligning civil works with HV tower installation and cabling delivery schedules.
  • Champion a strong safety culture, ensuring strict compliance with SSHEQ regulations, carrying out regular hazard assessments, and promoting zero tolerance for unsafe behaviours.
  • Proactively manage site environmental controls to eliminate or minimise ecological impact.
  • Lead the team in developing robust construction methodologies, SSHEQ procedures, Risk Assessments & Method Statements (RAMS), and Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs).
  • Mobilise and manage essential project resources (labour, plant, materials, and subcontractors) efficiently.
  • Act as the primary technical interface with external client stakeholders, including Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN).
  • Manage contract requirements, identify variations/change, and actively participate in on-site change control and risk reduction meetings alongside the Commercial Manager.

Candidate Requirements

  • HNC, HNC, or Degree level qualification in Civil Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Minimum 10 years of professional civil engineering experience, with a heavy emphasis on linear transportation, access roads, or heavy civil infrastructure projects.
  • Valid CSCS Manager's Card (Black Card).
  • Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary site teams, manage complex client interfaces, authorise RAMS/ITPs, and navigate NEC/FIDIC contract frameworks.
  • A results-driven leader who embraces continuous improvement, brings a focus on operational excellence, and works collaboratively under dynamic project conditions.
