Are you an experienced and ambitious General Foreman with a proven track record in heavy civils and water infrastructure? Do you thrive on the challenges of complex, large-scale projects, including deep drainage and shaft sinking? My client is a highly successful, £180m turnover civils contractor with a reputation for excellence in delivering major infrastructure projects across the UK. Their diverse portfolio includes significant schemes in the heavy civils and water sectors, and due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of secured work, they are looking for a skilled and dedicated General Foreman to join the team. The Role As a General Foreman, you will play a pivotal role in the on-site management and delivery of their prestigious projects. You will be responsible for leading and motivating site teams, ensuring work is completed safely, on time, and to the highest quality standards. Key Responsibilities: Operational Leadership: Manage and coordinate all on-site activities, including direct labour and subcontractors, to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of the project programme. Health & Safety: Uphold and champion rigorous health and safety culture, conducting regular site inspections, toolbox talks, and ensuring all works are carried out in strict accordance with company procedures and industry regulations. Technical Expertise: Utilise your in-depth knowledge of heavy civils techniques, particularly in complex areas such as: Shaft Sinking: Oversee the safe and controlled excavation and construction of shafts, including temporary works and ground stabilisation. Deep Drainage: Manage the installation of large-diameter pipes and complex drainage systems at significant depths. Quality & Productivity: Monitor and control work quality, ensuring all construction meets the project specifications and company standards. Drive productivity to meet and exceed programme targets. Resource Management: Effectively plan and manage plant, labour, and material requirements to ensure smooth project flow. Stakeholder Communication: Liaise with the Site Management team, engineers, and other stakeholders to report on progress, resolve issues, and ensure clear communication across the site. About You: Experience: A minimum of [e.g., 5+] years\’ experience as a General Foreman or similar role within the heavy civils sector. Sector Knowledge: Demonstrable experience working on major water and/or wastewater infrastructure projects is essential. Specialist Skills: Proven, hands-on experience in shaft sinking and deep drainage is a non-negotiable requirement. Qualifications: A relevant civil engineering qualification (e.g., HNC/HND) and a valid CSCS card are preferred. SMSTS or SSSTS certification is a must. Leadership: A natural leader with the ability to inspire, mentor, and manage a diverse site team.
