Opportunity: Health and Safety Manager
Project: Lower Thames Crossing
Working Arrangements: Full–time, site–based role aligned to project working hours
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Health and Safety Manager to join the major Lower Thames Crossing project during the critical utilities diversion phase. In this role, you will play a crucial part in ensuring the safe delivery of high–risk excavation works in close proximity to live services, maintaining strict compliance with statutory requirements and company procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Day–to–Day Support: Provide dedicated Health and Safety guidance to the project team and leadership to effectively manage risk and promote a strong safety culture.
- Planning & Compliance: Review risk assessments and Safe Systems of Work (SSOW), ensuring operational teams strictly adhere to safety standards.
- Site Monitoring & Intervention: Actively monitor site activities and intervene directly whenever unsafe conditions or behaviours are identified.
- Utility & Excavation Safety: Implement and enforce procedures specifically focused on high–risk excavation and avoiding danger from live services.
- Audits & Incident Management: Participate in regular safety inspections, audits, and incident investigations as required.
- Continuous Improvement: Support ongoing initiatives to drive continuous improvement in safety performance across the project.
Key Requirements
- Experience: Demonstrable background in Health and Safety management within major civil engineering or utilities projects.
- Domain Knowledge: Strong, proven understanding of excavation and utility safety risks, especially around live services.
- Track Record: Proven experience delivering within high–risk infrastructure environments.
- Qualifications: Relevant formal qualifications (e.g., NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent).
- Membership: Professional membership such as CMIOSH is highly desirable.
- Communication: Outstanding communication, leadership, and stakeholder engagement skills.
