We are seeking a high-caliber Design Manager to join the prestigious 1 Mayfair project on a freelance basis. This is a critical role requiring immediate mobilization to support the delivery of one of London's most significant luxury prime residential developments.
Reporting directly to the Design Director, you will take a lead role in managing a complex design ecosystem and solving intricate technical challenges on-site.
The Role
- Status: Freelance / Temporary
- Duration: 6 months (minimum)
- Start Date: Immediate (As soon as tomorrow for the right candidate/rate)
- Location: Mayfair, Central London
- Attendance: 4 to 5 days per week on-site
- Rate: The budget for this role is able to be stretched for the right person
Leadership & Responsibilities
You will be the central point of contact for a diverse design team, providing leadership and technical direction to:
- Internal Team: 10 staff members based in the office.
- External Team: 25+ external designers, coordinators, and drafters.
- Direct Support: Acting as the primary technical resource for design coordinators and drafters, answering complex queries and providing actionable solutions for façade systems.
Technical Requirements & Expertise
The core challenge of this project involves the integration of high-end stone facades with complex structural requirements.
Must-Haves:
- Façade Knowledge: Deep understanding of façade systems, specifically regarding fire barriers and cavity barriers.
- Structural Understanding: Ability to manage the "clash" between fire/cavity barriers and the primary structural frame.
- Technical Leadership: Proven capacity to provide technical solutions under pressure.
- Software: Proficiency in AutoCAD for drafting and design review.
Nice-to-Haves:
- Stone Specialist: Specific expertise in stone façade assembly and detailing.
- Structural Engineering Background: Advanced knowledge of structural interfaces.
- Availability: Ability to commit to 5 days a week on-site.
