A client of mine is looking for a Quantity Surveyor (QS) to join their project team based in Aylesbury. This is an excellent opportunity to work on a rail-based project for a Joint Venture.
Location and Contract
- Location: Aylesbury, North Chilterns
- Contract: 6+ Month Rolling Contract

Key Responsibilities (Commercial Ownership)
- Full commercial lifecycle of allocated project sections.
- Financial Control & Forecasting: Drive robust Cost Value Reconciliation (CVR) and detailed monthly reporting to ensure project profitability is maintained and accurately forecasted.
- Contractual Governance: Administer and interpret NEC3/NEC4 contracts, meticulously managing notices, variations, and complex compensation events to protect the JVās commercial position.
- Subcontractor Management: Lead the procurement process for key subcontractors, managing the full commercial lifecycle from initial tendering and negotiation through to agreement of final accounts.
- Cash Flow Discipline: Prepare and submit accurate Applications For Payment (AFPs) to the client while rigorously assessing and processing subcontractor applications, ensuring strict cash management.
- Risk & Value Leadership: Proactively identify potential commercial risks (e.g., inflation, scope creep) and develop mitigation plans, actively seeking value engineering opportunities to maximize project returns.
- Project Liaison: Serve as the primary commercial point of contact, collaborating daily with the site engineering team, design partners, and senior management.
Candidate Requirements
- Experience: Proven experience (typically 3-5+ years) operating as a Quantity Surveyor or SQS in Rail, Civil Engineering, or Major Infrastructure.
- Contract Expertise: Proficiency in administering NEC contracts (NEC3/NEC4) (non-negotiable).
- Qualifications: HNC/HND, Degree, or equivalent in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.
- Mindset: Exceptional attention to detail, strong negotiation skills, and genuine commitment to site-based collaborative work.
- Candidates must be eligible to live and work in the UK.
