Role Overview: My client is looking for a highly capable, safety-driven Site Supervisor to oversee the day-to-day site operations for a £6m roof refurbishment at Birmingham New Street Station. This role requires a practical leader who thrives in logistically challenging environments. You will be responsible for leading the site teams and specialist subcontractors on the station roof as they dismantle and replace secondary steelwork and fabric cladding. Operating directly over a live, major rail interchange, your primary focus will be maintaining an uncompromising safety culture, driving production, and managing daily logistics. Due to the nature of the work suitable candidates must be willing to work nights.
Candidate Responsibilities:
- Act as the primary supervisor on the roof, driving the daily work program and ensuring specialist steelwork and cladding subcontractors meet their targets.
- Coordinate daily site logistics, including the movement of materials, high-level lifting operations, and managing restricted access/egress points.
- Conduct daily shift briefings, toolbox talks, and handover briefings to the workforce (including night/weekend shift handovers).
- Enforce strict health and safety policies, ensuring all personnel on-site are working strictly in accordance with approved Method Statements (RAMS).
- Deliver work safely within strict Network Rail boundaries, ensuring no risks are posed to the live station or tracks operating below.
- Manage site permits (e.g., Permits to Work, Hot Works, Working at Height) and ensure all plant and equipment on the roof are compliant and safe to use.
- Maintain accurate daily site diaries, recording labour levels, plant utilisation, weather conditions, and any operational delays.
- Collaborate closely with the Site and Section Engineers to ensure that structural inspections and quality checks are coordinated smoothly without delaying production.
Candidate Requirements:
- Track record working as a Site Supervisor, Construction Supervisor, or Foreman for a Tier 1 or Tier 2 contractor.
- Strong practical knowledge of structural steel erection, architectural cladding/facade systems, or heavy structural refurbishment.
- Rail stations background is essential.
- Deep understanding of working-at-height regulations, edge protection, scaffolding interface, and supervising crane/hoist lifts.
- Valid SSSTS or SMSTS, and a valid CSCS Card (Gold Supervisor card preferred).
- A firm but collaborative approach to managing subcontractors and a reputation for upholding high safety standards.
