We are seeking an experienced Site Engineer to oversee night shift operations for a major bridge survey and weld repair project in Birmingham. Working with a leading Tier 1 contractor, you will be responsible for managing on-site shift operations, surveying structural elements, briefing operative teams, and producing comprehensive daily shift reports.

Specialised or deep technical welding knowledge is not required for this role; your core focus will be setting out, surveying, engineering management, and shift reporting.

Candidate Responsibilities:
  • Deliver clear, detailed safety and operational briefings (TBS/RAMS) to site teams before each shift.
  • Conduct dimensional surveys and monitoring across the bridge structure to identify and log repair locations.
  • Monitor shift progress and produce concise, accurate end-of-shift engineering reports detailing completed works, delays, and planned next steps.
  • Ensure all survey data and repair activities adhere to safety guidelines and Tier 1 quality standards.
  • Act as the key engineering contact on-site during weekend night shifts, ensuring smooth coordination between operatives and site management.
Candidate Requirements:
  • PTS/SSSTS is essential.
  • Proven experience as a Site Engineer within civil engineering, structural repairs, or heavy infrastructure projects.
  • Competent with standard survey equipment (Total Station/GPS/Levels) for site layout and monitoring.
  • Strong communication and reporting skills.
  • Prior experience working on bridge structures, steelwork, or structural maintenance contracts.
