Randstad are seeking a Section Engineer with a robust heavy civils background to join a critical HS2 package in the Aylesbury area. The scope of works involves a combination of complex precast elements and intricate in-situ reinforced concrete (RC). This role demands an engineer who excels in managing tight tolerances, high-accuracy engineering, and rigorous quality control. You will be responsible for leading a team of Site Engineers, overseeing subcontractors, and managing complex construction sequencing across multiple active work fronts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical & Engineering Management
    • Sequencing & Coordination: Manage and optimize the day-to-day sequencing of complex precast installations and large-scale RC pours across multiple concurrent work fronts.
    • Dimensional Control: Ensure strict tolerances and high-accuracy alignment are met, overseeing the setting-out provisions and surveying controls on site.
    • Temporary Works: Coordinate and manage temporary works requirements, ensuring designs are implemented safely and in strict accordance with specifications.
    • Information Management: Review, interpret, and raise queries regarding complex engineering drawings, specifications, and RAMS (Risk Assessments and Method Statements). Resolve Technical Queries (TQs) efficiently with the design team.
  • Quality Assurance & Compliance
    • Quality Control: Establish and enforce rigorous Quality Control plans. Ensure all As-Built drawings, Quality Check Sheets, and Handover documentation are completed accurately and progressively.
    • Material Approvals: Oversee the inspection and sign-off of precast elements upon delivery and post-installation, alongside managing in-situ concrete quality testing.
  • Site & Subcontractor Leadership
    • Team Management: Lead, mentor, and organize a team of Site Engineers to ensure clear daily targets and consistent engineering excellence.
    • Subcontractor Management: Supervise and coordinate specialist subcontractors, ensuring works progress in line with the master programme, safely, and to the required quality standard.
    • Progress Reporting: Attend daily/weekly collaborative planning meetings, providing accurate progress updates to the Sub Agent / Agent.
  • Health, Safety & Environment
    • Safety Culture: Set a high standard for health, safety, and environmental compliance, actively participating in site inductions, toolbox talks, and safety inspections.

Candidate Requirements

  • Essential Experience & Background
    • Heavy Civils Background: Proven track record working on major infrastructure projects (e.g. HS2, rail, structures, or highways / bridges).
    • Structural Expertise: Strong, demonstrable experience in both complex in-situ reinforced concrete (RC) and the installation/stitching of precast concrete elements.
    • High-Accuracy Projects: Experience delivering structures with exceptionally tight tolerances and complex logistical sequencing.
    • Leadership: Experience managing and developing junior/site engineers.
  • Qualifications & Tickets
    • Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or an equivalent technical qualification.
    • Valid CSCS Card (AQS, Professionally Qualified, or Manager level preferred).
    • SMSTS or SSSTS qualification.
    • First Aid at Work (desirable).
    • Temporary Works Coordinator/Supervisor (TWC/TWS) qualification is highly advantageous.
