Our Mission

Randstad are working with our partners at Cumberland Council to recruit a stable workforce where we put children and families at the heart of everything we do. We aren’t just looking for Social Workers, we are looking for empathetic advocates who believe in the power of early intervention and the right of every child to be safe and nurtured within their community.

The Impact You Will Make

  • Building Trust: Within your first month, you will begin building meaningful relationships with a small, manageable caseload of families, focusing on stability and safety.
  • Empowering Families: You will lead planning that prioritises "working with" families rather than "doing to" them.
  • Systemic Change: You will collaborate with schools, police, and health partners to create a holistic safety net for Cumberland's most vulnerable children.

What You Bring (Skills-Based)

  • Relational Intelligence: You can connect with people from all walks of life, especially during their most challenging moments.
  • Analytical Thinking: You can weigh complex information to make evidence-based decisions that prioritise a child's welfare.
  • Resilience & Boundaries: You know how to manage high-pressure situations while maintaining a focus on self-care and professional reflection.

Qualification: You are a Social Work England registered Social Worker.

Removing Barriers: Why You Should Apply for this role

We recognise that the best Social Workers come from diverse backgrounds. Although this is a temporary position right now, we have a range of fixed term and permanent roles within the local authority available. Whether you are returning to the workforce after a break, or have multiple years experience, Cumberland will work with you to find the best role possible. Cumberland offers protected caseloads, regular clinical supervision, and flexible scheduling to ensure that your personal commitments - whether they involve childcare, disability needs, or community leadership's are respected.

Our Inclusive Process

  • Application: We focus on your personal statement and core competencies.
  • The Interview: We can quickly arrange a structured, values-based conversation. We can provide the interview themes in advance to help our candidates prepare.
  • The Panel: You will meet a mix of team leaders and, where possible, a representative with lived experience of the service.
