We are seeking an experienced, proactive Housing Enforcement Officer to step into an interim role within the south of Cumberland. Based out of Whitehaven, you will be hitting the ground running to maintain regulatory standards and ensure private sector housing safety across the region. This is a fantastic opportunity for a seasoned housing professional looking for a flexible, 4-day-a-week interim contract with a blend of on-site inspections and remote work.
Key Responsibilities
- HHSRS Inspections: Conduct robust inspections of private rented properties under the Housing Health and Safety Rating System.
- HMO Licensing: Manage and process Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMO) licenses, ensuring strict compliance with local and national standards.
- Enforcement Action: Identify breaches, issue formal Enforcement Notices, and confidently lead on subsequent actions, including drafting civil penalties or preparing files for prosecution where necessary.
- Community Safety: Act as a knowledgeable point of contact for tenants, landlords, and stakeholders in the Cumberland area.
What We Are Looking For
- Proven Experience: A strong background working as a Housing Enforcement / Environmental Health Officer within a local authority framework.
- Technical Knowledge: Deep, working knowledge of the HHSRS framework, HMO legislation, and private sector housing enforcement procedures.
- Autonomy: The ability to manage a caseload independently from day one.
- Mobility: A valid UK driving license and access to a vehicle to fulfill the required 2 days a week of on-site inspections in South Cumberland.
