Theatre Nurse

Are you a highly motivated and experienced Registered Nurse (RN) or Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) looking to take a leading role in a dynamic Theatre department? Our client delivers first-class independent ophthalmology service in a safe, comfortable, and welcoming environment.

The Role: What You'll Do

As a Theatre Practitioner, you will ensure a high-quality, responsive service is consistently delivered and will support the Theatre Lead in developing theatre services. You will manage resources effectively, including the pre-assessment, admission, and discharge of patients.

Key Responsibilities Include:

• Patient Journey Management: Conducting pre-operative telephone assessments, safely admitting patients on the day of surgery, providing clear pre-operative instructions and reassurance, and ensuring all discharge criteria are met post-operatively with thorough aftercare instructions.

• Theatre Support: Assisting with patient preparation and/or circulating for ophthalmic procedures (training is provided). You will also participate in the

• 5 Steps to Safer Surgery (WHO Surgical Safety Checklist).

• Quality and Governance: Maintaining infection control practices, ensuring all records are completed in accordance with NMC and Trust policies. You will also be responsible for maintaining the clinical governance framework, escalating concerns, and assisting with the investigation and documentation of incidents.

• Teamwork and Management: Working collaboratively with the Theatre Lead on list management and staffing levels. You'll also work with the wider multidisciplinary team for efficient patient flow.

• Stock and Equipment: Maintaining an effective ordering and stock control system for all consumables and drugs used in the operating department.

We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic and self-motivated, with a proactive approach to problem-solving and a flexible approach to workloads.

Essential Requirements:

• Registered Nurse / ODP qualification.

• Up to date knowledge on current pre-assessment and ambulatory care practice.

• Consolidated re-assessment/ambulatory recovery experience.

• Evidence of ongoing professional development.

• Excellent communication, organisational, and leadership skills.

• IT Literate and consistently able to meet deadlines.

• Engage in reflective practice, clinical supervision, and training opportunities.
