Are you an experienced Social Worker with a passion for permanence and kinship care? We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Locum Special Guardianship Order (SGO) / Kinship Social Worker to join a specialized team within Manchester City Council (MCC). This is a vital temporary position offering an excellent rate and flexible hybrid working.

The Role: Special Guardianship & Kinship

You will be responsible for undertaking in-depth assessments and providing support to connected persons caring for children under SGOs and other kinship arrangements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducting high-quality, comprehensive Special Guardianship Assessments (SGA) and Connected Persons Assessments.
  • Preparing detailed, evidence-based reports for court proceedings and Panel consideration.
  • Providing ongoing post-order support, advice, and guidance to Special Guardians and kinship carers.
  • Working closely with legal services, LAC teams, and the judiciary to achieve permanence for children.

  • Pay Rate: Competitive rate of £35.00 per hour (Umbrella).
  • Location: Manchester City Council (MCC).
  • Working Pattern: Hybrid working model (mix of office and home-based working).

Requirements

  • Must be a Qualified Social Worker (QSW), registered with Social Work England.
  • Proven, recent experience conducting SGO Assessments or working specifically within a Kinship / Permanence Team.
  • Excellent knowledge of relevant legislation pertaining to Special Guardianship and Children in Care.
  • Ability to produce detailed, analytical, and court-ready written work to strict deadlines.
