We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) to join our dedicated Mental Health Team in Durham. You will play a vital role in protecting vulnerable adults experiencing mental health crises, working collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team to conduct thorough assessments, make informed decisions about legal interventions, and advocate for the best interests of individuals under the Mental Health Act 1983.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of individuals experiencing mental health crises, including gathering information from various sources, conducting interviews, and undertaking risk assessments.
- Participate in multi-agency meetings (e.g., crisis care meetings, care planning meetings) to develop and implement appropriate care plans.
- Provide advice and guidance to other professionals on the Mental Health Act 1983 and related legislation.
- Prepare and present clear and accurate reports for court proceedings and other legal processes.
- Make informed decisions about the most appropriate course of action for individuals experiencing mental health crises, including applications under the Mental Health Act 1983.
- Advocate for the rights and needs of individuals experiencing mental health crises, ensuring their voices are heard and their wishes are respected.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records, adhering to all relevant legislation and professional guidelines.
- Contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of the team's services.
- Participate in regular supervision and training opportunities.
- Comply with all relevant policies and procedures of Durham County Council.
Essential Criteria:
- Significant post-qualifying experience as a qualified social worker.
- Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council.
- Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) designation.
- Excellent communication, assessment, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage a demanding workload.
- Thorough understanding of the Mental Health Act 1983 and related legislation.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
