Cumberland Council is seeking an experienced Estates Surveyor to join our Corporate Assets, Fleet, and Safety team.
This is a unique opportunity to help shape the future of a diverse and extensive property portfolio valued at £570m.
In this role, you will be instrumental in the proactive management of our estate, ensuring efficient use and occupation while identifying exciting opportunities for rationalisation and sustainable development.

Responsibilities
- Assist in delivering comprehensive disposal, acquisition, and asset management case work to support the Council Plan.
- Conduct Asset Valuations for financial reporting purposes, including red book valuations to inform strategic decision-making.
- Implement the Corporate Landlord model to ensure property decisions align with the Council's Asset Management Plan.
- Support regeneration and transformation programmes by interpreting service area requirements and providing expert project input.
- Proactively manage the investment portfolio to maximize rental income and identify new economic opportunities.
- Manage project risks and implement innovative solutions for land acquisition, disposal, and investment.
- Prepare detailed reports, presentations, and briefings for project stakeholders while fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
- Coordinate and project manage the Council's statutory asset valuation programme.
Qualifications
- Membership of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS) and/or working towards APC completion.
- Must show evidence of compliance with RICS continued professional development (CPD) rules.
- Detailed knowledge of asset management planning processes and formal report writing skills.
- Considerable experience in engaging consultants, contractors, and working in partnership across sectors.
- Experience in high-level dialogue and negotiations regarding complex property issues.
- Ability to work systematically, meeting strict deadlines and audit requirements.
Desirable
Further advanced degree/management qualification and RICS Registered Valuer status.
- Full driving licence required.
