Cumberland Council is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Estates Surveyor to join our Corporate Assets, Fleet, and Safety team. In this pivotal role, you will help manage a diverse £570m property portfolio that serves as the backbone for both essential front-line service delivery and economic regeneration. Responsibilities:
- Provide class-leading property expertise, including red book valuations, to guide senior management decision-making.
- Execute a range of disposal, acquisition, and asset management casework to support the Council's long-term strategic ambitions.
- Conduct Asset Valuations for financial reporting and lead the implementation of the Corporate Landlord model across the estate.
- Proactively manage the investment portfolio to maximise rental income and identify new commercial opportunities.
- Identify, manage, and mitigate commercial and programme risks associated with property projects.
- Deliver innovative solutions for regeneration and transformation programmes, interpreting service requirements into actionable project plans.
- Prepare and present high-level reports and briefings for diverse stakeholders, including senior colleagues and members of the public.
- Collaborate with the wider team to deliver the statutory asset valuation programme within a performance management framework.
Qualifications:
- Membership: Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS) and/or working towards APC completion.
- Compliance: Evidence of compliance with RICS continued professional development (CPD) rules.
- Experience: Significant experience in engaging consultants/contractors, professional negotiations, and managing property-related casework.
- Technical Knowledge: Detailed understanding of asset management planning processes and proficiency in formal report writing.
- Skills: A systematic, resilient, and assertive approach to problem-solving, with a strong commitment to collaborative team working.
- Desirable: Further advanced degree or management qualification; RICS Registered Valuer status.
