Role Snapshot

• Role Title: Family Support Worker
• Salary: £29,000 per annum pro rata (£23,200 actual)
• Working Hours: Part-time (0.8 FTE / 28 hours per week)
• Contract: Fixed-term until August 2027
• Location: Newham (co-located in local authority hubs with home visits, hybrid working & occasional head office visits)
• Generous Leave: 24 days annual leave (based on 30 days FTE) + pro rata bank holidays

About the Opportunity

This is a unique chance to work at the forefront of a pioneering Randomised Controlled Trial (RCT) pilot programme-the Connected programme. Designed to deliver intensive, structured 6 month support, the programme helps kinship carers stabilise placements, navigate complex systems, and access vital services.

As a Family Support Worker, you will manage an active caseload of approximately 20 families at a time (around 40 across the year). Combining relational casework with high-quality data collection, your efforts will help build a strong evidence base to transform kinship care nationwide.

What You Will Do

• Direct 1-to-1 Support: Provide emotional and practical guidance to carers in their homes and local communities using the Connected Intervention Protocol.
• Support Groups & Events: Establish and facilitate monthly support groups and coordinate celebratory family events.
• Multi-Agency Collaboration: Work closely with local authority teams, social workers, schools, health services, and community partners to advocate for families.
• Data & Casework Recording: Maintain accurate, timely CRM records (Salesforce) and complete SMART goal assessments to support trial evaluation.
• Safeguarding & Risk Management: Follow established safeguarding policies and risk assessment frameworks with full support from designated safeguarding leads.

What We Are Looking For

Essential Criteria:

• Proven experience supporting vulnerable families or carers, completing needs assessments, and developing support plans.
• Experience in community-focused casework and facilitating peer or support groups.
• Demonstrated ability to build trusting relationships while maintaining professional boundaries.
• Strong IT and administration skills, including experience using CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce) for case management.
• Knowledge of trauma-informed and strengths-based approaches to family support.
• Clear understanding of safeguarding procedures and child protection practices.
• Strong commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
• Right to work in the UK and willingness to travel within Newham and surrounding areas.

Desirable Criteria:

• Lived experience of kinship care.
• Background in social care, early help, or children & family support services.
• Existing knowledge of statutory policies and support options for kinship families.
