Are you a time served, HNC (or equivalent) holder within an engineering capacity? Do you have experience supervising and leading maintenance/engineering teams? Are you based in or around Port Talbot? Tata Steel is seeking a Mechanical Engineer on a permanent basis to join their Hot Rolled Products team. This team provides quality steel products to the automotive, agricultural, construction, electrical and the shipping industry.
A typical day will consist of setting Engineering Specialists up for the shift whilst advocating their development, as well as managing maintenance work orders, ensuring strict safety compliance and providing technical expertise.
Role: Mechanical Engineer (shifts)
Location: Tata Steel, Port Talbot works, Port Talbot, SA13 2NG
Shifts: X2 days, X2 nights and X4 off (12 hour shifts). This pattern is followed for 7 weeks and then an 18 day break.
Salary: £45,500-£52,000, dependent upon experience (also includes a 30% shift allowance).
Start: ASAP but pending the successful result of a medical assessment, which does include a Drug and Alcohol test.
Responsibilities:
- Providing the first line of expertise within the section
- Leading the shift engineering teams
- Coordinating the engineering teams activity across shifts
- Diagnosing and resolving complex faults
- Implementing effective solutions to complex faults
- Ensuring maintenance and repair activity is conducted both safely and effectively
- Managing maintenance orders in SAP
- Supporting engineering specialists development and training
- Ensuring PUWER, LOLER, DSEAR and COMAH compliance
- Adhering and promoting the strongest Health and Safety standards at all times
Essential Requirements:
- Full UK Driving Licence (due to the nature of the works)
- Completion of a craft apprenticeship
- HNC (or equivalent) qualification within Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
- Previous experience supervising/leading maintenance or engineering teams
- Good IT literacy especially with MS Office and SAP would be an advantage
- Strong verbal and written communication
- An excellent knowledge of UK Health and Safety legislation
