Location:

61 Largy Road, Crumlin, Co Antrim, BT29 4RR. Contract Offered: Full-time, Permanent Working Hours / Shifts: 40 hours per week, 7.40am to 6.10pm, Monday to Thursday. What does this team do? Molecular Microbiology is a division of the Molecular R&D Department which provides quantifiable microbiological standards and controls for the development and QC of all molecular microbiology based assays such as those for infectious diseases.

Unfortunately, we are unable to offer visa sponsorship at the point of hire. What does this involve?

This role is responsible for the day to day supervision of the Molecular Microbiology lab, resources and staff involved in the provision and development of microbiological controls for use in Molecular arrays. The main duties of the role include: Ensure smooth and efficient running of the Molecular Microbiology section overseeing a team of two microbiologists. The development of expertise within a given project. Ensure the team meet time and output targets for supply of material to established R&D projects.

Ensuring that all members of the team are performing optimally according to their level. The design and implementation of experimental work within the Departmental ISO framework. The maintaining of records covering all experimental work. Ensure staff are trained in line with appropriate standards and regulations. Perform a broad range of microbiological tests and procedures according to standard operating procedures. Isolate and maintain cultures of bacteria / other microorganisms for R&D & commercial use.

Identify and classify microorganisms found in specimens collected from human samples using both microbiological and molecular methods. Effectively manage a busy production laboratory. Who can apply? Essential criteria: A bachelors degree in a microbiological discipline. Previous experience in a R&D or commercial microbiology laboratory. Excellent communication and organisation skills Desirable: Experience in a lead role within R&D. Postgraduate qualification in Microbiology. Strong leadership skills. Experience in staff management.
