About us

Worksop College and Ranby House; one community set across two schools - educating children from age two to eighteen. We're proud of being a broad-ability school with a focus firmly on progress, recognising that every child has their own set of skills and abilities, whether it be academic, sporting, musical or otherwise. We believe that education is about more than the flight towards academic success, but about human flourishing. We want our students to be the very best version of themselves. If they are destined to attend an established University, here is where they will flourish, or if they are an outstanding sportsperson, here is where they will hone their skills. Perhaps they are a talented artist or musician, here is where they’d perfect their craft, but if these talents are yet to be revealed, here is where they’ll be discovered. We are a remarkable school, in a stunning setting, with exceptional facilities and a talented teaching staff. At our school, what matters is the individual, their aspirations and their future.

Job Description

Ranby House is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, experienced and inspiring LAMDA Tutor to join our thriving Drama provision.

We are looking for a practitioner with a passion for performance and communication who can nurture confidence, creativity and a love of drama and singing in young people. The successful candidate will teach pupils from Nursery through to Key Stage 3, preparing them for LAMDA Acting examinations and helping them develop valuable communication and performance skills.

The role is offered on a self-employed basis and, subject to pupil demand, is expected to involve at least one day of teaching per week.

The successful candidate will be an experienced LAMDA Teacher with a strong understanding of the Acting syllabus and the ability to inspire pupils of all abilities, from beginners to advanced performers. An ability to also teach singing, leading to LAMDA Musical Theatre and/or ABRSM examinations, would be advantageous.

Please note that applications will be reviewed on an ongoing basis, and we reserve the right to close this vacancy early.

TEACHING

The appointed Tutor will have the ability to nurture, encourage and inspire young pupils, developing their confidence as performers and communicators.

The Tutor will provide individual and paired lessons, planning engaging and challenging sessions that support pupils in achieving their full potential. Lessons should be carefully tailored to meet the needs and interests of each pupil, promoting creativity, resilience and independence.

Tutors are expected to:

  • Prepare pupils for various LAMDA examinations.

  • Monitor pupil progress through regular record-keeping.

  • Establish both short and long-term targets and review progress regularly.
  • Communicate effectively with parents regarding pupil progress and examination preparation.
  • Create a positive and supportive learning environment in which pupils can thrive.
  • Encourage excellent standards of performance, commitment and presentation.
  • Timetables are arranged in School in consultation with the Tutor, ensuring fair rotation where lessons take place during the school day.

EXAMINATIONS

The majority of pupils are prepared for LAMDA examinations. Tutors will be expected to enter pupils for examinations in accordance with the School's published deadlines and maintain high standards of preparation and administration throughout the examination process. Singing pupils may also be entered for ABRSM examinations.

The Tutor should remain up to date with syllabus developments and examination requirements and ensure pupils are fully prepared to achieve their best possible outcomes. Worksop College and Ranby House are centres for both ABRSM and LAMDA examinations.

PERFORMANCES AND ENRICHMENT

Music and Drama plays a significant role in the life of Ranby House and the successful candidate will be encouraged to contribute to the wider co-curricular programme.

Tutors will be expected to:

  • Prepare pupils for informal and formal performance opportunities.
  • Support and contribute to regular Teatime Concerts and Performance Showcases.

  • Encourage pupils to share their work confidently before an audience.
  • Help develop a culture of creativity, communication and performance throughout the school.
  • Contribute, where appropriate, to School productions, drama events and performance projects.
  • There may also be opportunities to develop additional clubs, workshops or enrichment activities for pupils.

Safeguarding & Child Protection

For this post applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening, including, but not limited to, reference checks with previous employers, online searches, prohibition checks and a criminal record check via the Applicants Disclosure and Barring Service (including Barred List Check). All offers of employment are conditional upon the satisfactory outcome of child protection screening checks.

Disclosures

We will appoint, train, develop and promote on the basis of merit and ability alone. It is a stipulation of the Governors and a statutory requirement that members of staff appointed to Worksop College should be shown not to have any criminal record, which might prevent them accepting a post at the College. Accordingly, the College requires permission from all members of staff to make an appropriate investigation. Offers of employment are subject to a satisfactory outcome of this enquiry.

The post is exempt from the Rehabilitations of Offenders Act 1974 and the School is therefore permitted to ask job applicants to declare all convictions and cautions (including those which are “spent” unless they are “protected” under the DBS filtering rules) in order to assess their suitability to work with children.
