Are you ready to lead and grow a high‑performing Power Systems team at the heart of the energy transition? Do you want the scope to shape strategy, elevate our technical offer, and be client‑facing in the UK & Ireland TSO/DSO and renewables market? If this sounds like you, or you’re curious to learn more, then this role could be the perfect opportunity. Join our Energy business as our new Power Systems Lead and work with us to close the gap to a sustainable future.
Your new role
You’ll lead a highly skilled and dedicated team of power systems engineers delivering solutions for DSOs, TSOs and renewable developers across the UK & Ireland, while collaborating daily with our 300+ global Power Systems experts and adjacent disciplines (e.g., offshore wind, grid connections, storage). Our Power Systems services span feasibility and concept to detailed analysis/design and owners’ engineering — an integrated offer we position as an end‑to‑end partner across the value chain. We are growing significantly, and you’ll have direct influence on defining and executing our strategy for the UK & Ireland market. You will both lead and grow an established team and be active in the market, shaping our pipeline, opening doors with TSOs/DSOs/developers, and raising the technical bar for studies and design.
Your key responsibilities will be:
- Technical leadership & delivery
- Lead complex power system design and compliance studies: load flow, voltage control, dynamic and transient stability, short‑circuit, protection coordination, harmonic/power quality and EMT studies.
- Design and advise on concepts for transmission and distribution systems (HV/MV), including offshore wind grid connections, onshore substations and interconnections, and industrial/private networks. Typical voltage range 10 kV–33 kV–132 kV–275/400 kV–525 kV (AC & DC).
- Own technical assurance: define methods, peer reviews, quality gates, and knowledge management for all studies; be ultimate signatory for key deliverables.
- Standard‑driven excellence: ensure compliance with UK Grid Code/NGESO (NESO), EirGrid/SONI, and ENA G99/G100, and relevant IEC/IEEE standards; steward model governance and data quality.
- Tooling leadership: champion best‑practice use of DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSCAD/EMTDC, PSS®E, ETAP (and similar), and promote scripting/automation where appropriate.
- Strategy, markets & business development
- Shape and execute the UK&I Power Systems strategy, with clear propositions for TSO/DSO connections, grid reinforcement, stability services, renewables and storage integration, and offshore transmission.
- Lead key pursuits and frameworks with TSOs/DSOs and major developers; craft winning narratives and pricing strategies, and build strong client relationships.
- Market presence: represent Ramboll at industry forums, author thought leadership, and cultivate partnerships (e.g., OEMs/contractors/technology partners) that complement our offer.
- People leadership & growth
- Lead, inspire and grow a diverse team (recruitment, onboarding, capability building, succession planning).
- Mentor technical specialists and establish development pathways (including route to CEng/CMgr) and cross‑GBAs collaboration (e.g., Wind, Energy Strategy & Planning, Solutions for Industry).
- Foster an inclusive, learning culture aligned to Ramboll leadership principles.
- Delivery excellence, governance & ways of working
- Establish standard processes for delivering and documenting studies (templates, model libraries, QA plans, EMC and EMT study approaches, and client‑ready reporting).
- Own multi‑project delivery governance (scope, risk, schedule, margin, and resource planning) and escalate proactively.
- Interface management across multidisciplinary projects (civil/structural, protection & control, SCADA/telecoms, H&S/CDM).
About you
- Degree in Electrical/Power Systems Engineering (or equivalent); Chartered Engineer (CEng) or near‑chartership (e.g., IET).
- Deep technical track record delivering (and reviewing) steady‑state, dynamic and EMT studies for grid connections, reinforcements, and compliance (incl. reactive power/voltage control, fault‑ride‑through, stability constraints, harmonics).
- Demonstrable experience with TSO/DSO processes (e.g., NGESO/NESO, EirGrid, SONI) and ENA codes; strong understanding of UK & Ireland regulatory context and grid access.
- Proficiency in one or more core tools (DIgSILENT, PSCAD, PSS®E, ETAP) and an appreciation of model validation, PSCAD EMT methodologies, and protection coordination studies.
- Proven people leadership (mentoring, recruitment, performance), client leadership (frameworks, major bids), and commercial acumen (scope, risk, margin).
- Familiarity with owner’s engineering/LTA roles for BESS and hybrid renewable projects.
- Clear, concise communicator able to translate analysis into decisions for clients and stakeholders.
- Experience in offshore wind transmission and onshore substation concept/design; exposure to HVDC and converter‑rich system behaviour (desirable).
- Working knowledge of EMT/phasor co‑simulation practices and digitalisation/automation of study workflows (desirable).
What we can offer you
- Commitment to your development.
- Leaders guided by our Leadership Principles.
- A culture that welcomes you as the unique person you are.
- Inspiration from colleagues, clients, and projects.
