As our new Senior/Principal Environmental Economist, you will contribute to the shaping and expansion of Ramboll’s strategic natural capital advisory services in the UK Market. You will be part of a team responsible for the continuous evolution of our natural capital services, delivering tailored approaches that drive value, generate sales and execute projects. You will do so in close collaboration with Ramboll’s other markets present locally as well as our global management consulting network.
Your key tasks and responsibilities will be:
- Assessment & valuation: Leading environmental assessment and accounting, applying robust qualitative and quantitative methods and developing strategic insights and clear recommendations for policymakers, businesses and investors.
- Advisory & strategy: Designing climate and nature resilient strategies and roadmaps (including nature finance options), integrating them with decarbonisation, circular economy, and business resilience programmes.
- Analytics & modelling: Building and Quality Assuring analytical models (e.g., Excel) for baselines, scenario analysis, and dashboards; interpret results and bring key insights to support decision‑making and reporting.
- Client delivery: Scoping and delivering projects end‑to‑end through proposal development, work specifications, stakeholder engagement, workshops, and high‑quality outputs (reports, briefings, presentations).
- Collaboration: Working across business units (e.g. Environment & Health, Energy, Water, Transport, Buildings) and with global colleagues to bring integrated solutions to clients.
- Capability building: Providing training and mentoring on, e.g. environmental economics, nature finance; reviewing reports and driving effective delegation.
Essential skills, qualifications and experience for the role:
- A genuine passion for sustainability.
- Relevant degree in Economics, Environmental Sciences, Environmental Finance, Business Administration, Management or similar. Advanced degrees (MSc or MA) in relevant subject (e.g. Environmental Economics, Sustainability Strategy) are highly desirable.
- Applied environmental economics expertise: Demonstrable experience conducting economic valuations for public and/or private sector clients.
- Economic consulting skillset: Strong quantitative ability (data analysis, interpretation), numeracy, and confidence working with economic/financial models and KPIs.
- Project management: Proven track record managing multi‑disciplinary projects, coordinating stakeholders, managing client relationships and delivering to time, scope, and quality.
- Communication: Clear, concise written and verbal communication; experience presenting and engaging at decision‑making level at client organisations and producing polished client deliverables.
- Collaboration & independence: Ability to work independently and as part of a team, building strong internal and external relationships, delegating and reviewing deliverables.
The ideal candidate will also have experience with:
- Nature, finance & policy: Good understanding of natural capital valuation methods, accounting frameworks and software, public policy advice, and nature finance solutions (e.g., BNG metrics, biodiversity/nature credits).
- Climate‑nature integration: Experience linking natural capital with climate risk, decarbonisation strategies, and circular business models.
- Analytics tools: Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel for modelling and statistical analysis; experience developing dashboards, informing and integrating spatial analysis.
- Publications & training: Record of publishing policy‑oriented research and delivering training in sustainability topics.
- Entrepreneurial mindset: Able to take a proactive approach to sales and delivery.
