About the Opportunity

We invite you to bring your strong desire to make meaningful, positive change and your passion for ecotoxicology into play in our Ecosystems Solutions Service Line. The team needs to stretch between laboratory and field-based knowledge, prospective and retrospective risk assessment, all types of environmental compartments, contaminants and species. We are often pioneering in new areas and regulatory contexts requiring thought leadership in method development including ecological risk assessment of contaminated sites and pollution incidents blended with advice on optimising environmental value in sustainable remediation and compensatory actions. We work closely with the Product Safety and Stewardship team (Health Science) on REACH authorisation providing advice on environmental fate, ecotoxicology, PBT and socio-economic analysis. The team also leads on ecosystem services and natural capital assessment, working with environmental economists, on valuing the environment for net gain,

risk management, and cost-benefit analysis.

Key tasks and responsibilities:

  • Assist with evaluating ecological risks of pollution from operational sites, dealing with contamination prior to infrastructure development (including offshore), or as part of corporate biodiversity strategy (disclosure and reporting requirements)

  • Degree, preferably Master’s degree or PhD, in biology, ecotoxicology or environmental pollution

  • Numerically competent – ability to complete accurate technical research and data gathering tasks under supervision and assists in technical analysis and data review. Ability to use software packages, including MS Word, MS Excel and MS Outlook. Use of statistical software an advantage.

  • Able to articulate results of own work to colleagues and line manager

The key deliverables for this role over the first 12-24 Months will be:

  • Input to ecological risk assessment reports including presenting research and analysis

  • Input to environmental damage assessment reports and natural capital assessment

  • Input to corporate biodiversity strategy reporting, Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion
